69th Year Zonal Council Meet – Zone 1 Concludes with Vision for Strengthening NASA India

Jalandhar: The 69th Year Zonal Council Meet of Zone 1 of the National Association of Students of Architecture (NASA India) brought together architecture students and representatives from various member units for a comprehensive programme focused on leadership, governance, collaboration, professional exposure and the future direction of the association.

The Zonal Council Meet commenced with the registration of participating delegates, followed by the formal inauguration, which included a welcome address by the host college, an address by Vice Chairman Harpreet Singh, ceremonial lighting of the lamp and a cultural performance.

Programme Head Ridhima Bhatia played a key role in coordinating and facilitating the successful conduct of the programme, while the meet was led under the guidance of Zonal President – Zone 1, Kunj Khurana.

The inaugural proceedings were followed by a keynote address by Ar. Sidhant Garg, providing an academic and professional perspective to participating architecture students. The programme also featured a Zone 1 Unit Introduction Session, enabling representatives from participating institutions to interact, present their units and understand the diversity of architectural education and student activities across the zone.

A major focus of the meet was developing a deeper understanding of NASA India, its history, evolution and organisational framework. Sessions covered the Articles of the association, legal documents, the Societies Registration Act, ISO certification, 12A and 80G provisions, copyright and logo protection, ISBN, FCRA, NITI Aayog and NGO DARPAN. Discussions also addressed admission and downgrading provisions under the relevant Articles.

Participants were further introduced to the governance structure of NASA India, including Articles 10–15 and possible article-wise amendments. Practical leadership-oriented sessions covered mail drafting, formal letter writing, social media branding and documentation, helping students strengthen their administrative and communication skills.

The programme also focused extensively on Constitution and Administration. Discussions covered elections, impeachment and vacancies, headquarters, sources of income, financial administration and miscellaneous provisions. The programme included an address by the 67th Year Zonal President, along with detailed discussions on events and programmes, trophy-related matters, NEXUS, exhibition structures and opportunities, publications, the digital and editorial team and the association’s website.

A significant discussion was held on “How Can We Strengthen NASA India?”, encouraging participants to contribute ideas for the organisation’s continued growth. Unit report presentations and Constitution Discussion Groups provided an interactive platform for delegates to share experiences, examine organisational provisions and collectively deliberate upon issues affecting the association.

The meet also centred on the 69th Year Annual Theme of NASA India, unit report presentations and the development of a Zone 1 Collaboration Map. The collaboration exercise explored opportunities involving heritage sites, architecture firms, industries and workshops, with the objective of creating stronger connections between architectural education, professional practice, heritage and industry.

The final sessions focused on shaping the future vision of Zone 1. Delegates discussed Zone 1 recommendations, resolutions and action points and presented recommendations concerning constitutional amendments. The meet concluded with a closing ceremony centred on the Zone 1 Vision and commitments for the 69th Year, followed by a vote of thanks.

Speaking on the occasion, Vice Chairman Harpreet Singh said, “Architecture education goes far beyond classrooms and textbooks. Platforms such as the NASA India Zonal Council Meet give young architects an opportunity to develop leadership, understand governance, exchange ideas and build meaningful professional connections. We are proud to host a platform that encourages students to think beyond themselves and contribute towards strengthening the architectural community. I am confident that the ideas and resolutions emerging from this meet will create a stronger, more collaborative and forward-looking Zone 1.”

The Zonal Council Meet provided a valuable platform for architecture students to engage in meaningful dialogue on leadership, governance, academic and professional collaboration, documentation, communication and organisational development. The deliberations and resolutions emerging from the meet are expected to provide a structured direction for strengthening Zone 1 activities during the 69th year of NASA India.

The event reflected NASA India’s continuing commitment to nurturing student leadership and creating opportunities for architecture students to learn, collaborate and contribute beyond the classroom. With discussions ranging from constitutional governance and financial administration to heritage, industry collaboration, exhibitions, publications and professional engagement, the Zonal Council Meet marked an important step towards building a more connected, informed and proactive architectural student community in Zone 1.
